Alfred Jarry (1873–1907) was a French poet, novelist, writer and playwright, as well as a draughtsman and engraver. He was born in Laval and died in Paris. He is best known for the play “Ubu roi,” published in 1896 in Paul Fort’s journal “Le Livre d’art” and first performed that same year by the Théâtre de l’Oeuvre company.
