Alexander Grin (1880–1932), whose real name was Alexander Stepanovich Grinevsky, was a Russian writer. He was born in Vyatka and died in Stary Krym. Before turning to literature, he worked among other occupations as a Volga sailor, gold prospector, dockworker, bath attendant, clerk, peat cutter, and casual laborer. Political persecution and exile took him to various parts of Russia. The writer was supported by Maxim Gorky.
