Alejandro Zambra, born in 1975 in Santiago, Chile, is a Chilean writer. He holds a doctorate in Hispanic studies, led the publishing studies program at Diego Portales University in Santiago, and worked as a literary critic for the Chilean newspaper El Mercurio and Spain’s El País. Zambra writes novels, short stories, and poetry, which have been published in more than twenty countries and received national and international awards. His debut novel, Bonsai, established his reputation. A film adaptation directed by Christián Jiménez premiered at Cannes in 2011.
