Alaa al-Aswani

Born in 1957, Alaa al-Aswani is a dentist, journalist, and writer. The Egyptian author has received numerous awards. Among his notable works is the novel *The Republic of Dreamers*, which appeared in German translation in 2021 and was banned in Egypt.
