Agnes Husslein-Arco

Agnes Husslein-Arco (born 1954) is an Austrian art historian with a doctorate and an exhibition curator. In 1981 she opened Sotheby’s Vienna office and managed its operations until 2000; from 1988, she also oversaw the firm’s offices in Budapest and Prague. During the 1990s, she served as Director of European Development at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. She was a board member of the Vienna Secession and vice president of the Kunstverein Kärnten. From 2001 to 2005, she directed the Rupertinum in Salzburg and was involved in the founding and opening of the Museum der Moderne Salzburg. She directed the Austrian Gallery Belvedere from 2007 to 2016. As an adviser to Heidi Goëss-Horten, she helped shape and develop the Heidi Horten Collection and became its founding director; the private museum opened in Vienna in 2022. Husslein-Arco has also authored and edited scholarly publications on art. She is a granddaughter of the painter Herbert Boeckl.
