Adam Zagajewski

Adam Zagajewski (born 1945 in Lviv) was a Polish writer, poet and essayist. He studied psychology and philosophy in Kraków and was associated with the poetic group Nowa fala. Zagajewski taught regularly at the University of Chicago and published numerous collections of poetry and essays as well as several novels. His many distinctions included the Eichendorff Literature Prize, the Heinrich Mann Prize, the Leopold Lucas Prize, the Princess of Asturias Award for Literature and the Pour le Mérite for Sciences and Arts. His notable works include the poetry collections Invisible Hand and Asymmetry and the essays In Defense of Ardor.
