Abbas Khider

Abbas Khider, born in Baghdad in 1973, is a German-language writer. At the age of 19, he was arrested for political activities. After his release, he fled Iraq in 1996 and lived in several countries. From 2000 onward, he lived in Germany and studied literature and philosophy in Munich and Potsdam. His debut novel, *The False Inder* (*Der falsche Inder*), was published in 2008. It was followed by works including *The President’s Oranges* (2011), *Letter to the Republic of Aubergines* (2013), *Slap* (2016), *Deutsch für alle* (2019), *Palace of the Miserable* (2020), and *The Memory Forger* (2022). Khider received, among others, the Nelly Sachs Prize, the Hilde Domin Prize, and the Adelbert von Chamisso Prize; in 2017, he was Mainz’s city writer.
