Reviewed by JacksonHaven't read the first two books of this series and could follow the storyline nontheless. A bit predictable but cozy and insanely gay. I really like T. Kingfisher's way of storytelling and humour and really grown fond of the couple <3
Reviewed by VerenaIt is a slow-burn fantasy romance (but not as slooooooow as the other two) where feelings are repressed, monsters lurk somewhere off-page, and the plot occasionally wanders away to think about its life choices. 😅 The romance is gentle and sincere, but the pacing drags, the stakes feel oddly muted, and several scenes exist purely so everyone can sit around and process their trauma again. That said, the banter is charming, the emotional beats mostly land, and somehow it still works. Is it the strongest book in the series? Nope. Did I still enjoy every emotionally constipated paladin moment? Absolutely 😊 also spongiform erectile tissue 😂😂 -> Maybe a hero is just what we call someone who doesn’t have the sense to stop before they destroy themselves.” -> “You cannot ask a woman to compete with a god. But we can still love someone and be loved. Even as broken as we are.” -> Once a thing is made, it exists in the mind of the world.
