I’ll be honest: I kind of knew the plot since the beginning of the book, because of April’s pov. The writing felt off: too simple, too repetitive. Like she was trying to convince the readers of her story by insisting and putting things in our mind. This is what gave the plot out for me. I found the unreliable narrator thing so cool, I love this kind of narrator, but here it was too obvious. It still stays a page turner, and Julie’s pov really is interesting, plus the major plot twist in the epilogue is really cool and unexpected. But I’m a bit disappointed that the only major plot twist is at the very end and that I discovered all the story since the beginning. At the beginning I was eager to be like Sherlock Holmes, searching for clues for the real culprit, and right from the beginning I felt like a detective just reading a report. Even though, the idea was good!! Simple, yet effective. The relationships between the families and inside the families are well-described and it works just fine, I could totally imagine the block, the houses, the character dynamics. It stays a fun read not too hard in between hard reads, I’d say. I still recommend the book! It’s worth the try.

I love every Frieda McFadden book I've read so far. This one had so much potential, but really missed the mark for me. It was great until around halfway through. Then, it was just messy, undone, and abrupt. I feel like this book could have been really good! But, it just left me feeling unmoved.
