I have absolutely no idea why so many people like this book so much. Dacre (the male main character - I'm NOT going to call him a hero because he's a toxic piece of shit) has so many red flags he could moonlight as flagpole. I'm thoroughly underwhelmed by the world building and plot. I have no idea what's going on in that world and why. I didn't even know the book was about fae until it casually was mentioned about halfway through the book. It's fast paced because it has to be...to make up for the crudely written explicit scenes. There are way better words out there to use! But...the choice of words makes it clear it's nothing but lust. Love? Bitch please. Back to our main characters. Nyra (female „lead") has no backbone, anger issues and should learn not to have sex just because the guy dares her to. Everything about the encounters of Dacre and Nyra is plain toxic (him constantly calling her a traitor, ongoing verbal abuse, his possessiveness (not jealousy. Possessiveness!) him not accepting her saying „no" because he knows better - just to name a tew). But the cherry on top: the last chapter. Are you kidding me??? That's very very close to rape. Him fucking her (yes. It was nothing else than a nice fuck for him) while knowing her biggest secret and NOT talking it out with her? Wasting time fucking her, he could have used for making plans if he really cared about her? Then calling her by her given name while still inside her? Not stopping as she pushed against his shoulders because she was afraid for her life now? I made myself finish this book constantly hoping for a good ending. But. No. I'm definitely not forcing myself to read the next book. I can't recommend this series to any self loving woman
