"I am many things: a whore, a mother, a liar. But I am not a killer. Unlike my beloved daughter.“ Jesus, this was torture! After reading Foleys book "The guest List“, which I thoroughly enjoyed, I thought I’d give a another pretty hyped book by her a chance. I realised pretty quickly that it was a mistake. This book is so incredibly slow, it took me ages to get through. It was definitely not a page turner, nothing really interesting happened and there was absolutely no suspense. By the middle of the book I didn’t even care who did it anymore, I just wanted it to be over with. 350 pages were completely useless, nothing described that actually helped the storyline or was needed. 100 pages were actual plot. 20 pages were actually exciting and suspenseful. The main plottwist and the final reveal (finally after 400 pages, and two weeks) of who did it, was boring and predictable. The second plottwist and the sudden "is he really read?!“- moment, got me more, still didn’t have the effect on me I wished it would have. The characters in this book are all incredibly shallow, the world building didn’t work and there was not one likeable person in this book. I spent way too many pages reading about dinners, flowerbeds, underwear or masquerade-hooking parties. I get it made sense for the plot, but each scene did not need to be this long. After 400 pages I don’t even remember everything I read. I’m more impressed how Lucy Foley managed to make this story into a book this long, than by the actual book. I’m sorry but this was a miss and definitely one of the worst thriller books I have ever read!
