As enemy nations close in, Chang Geng follows his godfather to the heart of the imperial capital, where a greater fate lies in store for him. This steampunk series set in a world like historical China, built around the desire between two men (danmei), was penned by blockbuster author priest, whose works have been translated into many languages and inspired global multimedia franchises, including the live-action dramas Guardian and Word of Honor. 3,5⭐ I think it's the first danmei where the main characters feel more like real people for they are insecure and flawed and choose badly and are frustrating. But I'm interested to see where there are going and end up in this chaotic empire. I feel like I'll like the following Volumes more bc Chang Geng will be more involved in the whole political device and will be fighting more and not just sitting at home all depressed. Ps: I know, I KNOW you shouldn't EVER trust a monk or an eunuch but I still like Liao Ran. Fingers crossed he isn't a sly backstabbing monk.
