Against the unforgiving landscape of a hospital, I broke the one rule dying people must always follow. I fell in love. I fell in love with a mischievous, sun-eyed boy who became my only joy in such a desolate place. That's what made it all the more soul-crushing when he committed suicide before my eyes. Since then, I've sworn never to love again. With three exceptions: My best friends, Sony, Neo, and Coeur, a little gang of rebellious dying kids. Sony leads the charge with the air of freedom and only one lung to breathe it. Neo, a bad-tempered and wheel-chaired writer, keeps track of our great deeds from stealing to terrorizing our nurse. Coeur is the beautiful boy, the muscle, the gentle giant with a failing heart,Before death inevitably knocks down our doors, my thieves and I have one last heist planned. A great escape that will take us far from abusive parents, crippling loss, and the realities of our diseases. So what happens when someone else walks through the door? What happens when a girl joins our party and renders me speechless with her mischievous smiles? What happens when she has suns in her eyes, and as terrified as I am to lose again, I start to fall?

i wanted to love this book so so much. it sounded like THE perfect book for me. unfortunately i couldn't really connect with the story and the characters. this makes me so sad :(( i felt like the execution wasn't that good
It's a book about hope and death. Very sad, very heartbreaking. Very poetic. I love it even if it breaks my heart so very much
Phew… I have very mixed feelings about this book. First of all, it’s written in an extremely poetic style. Like, sometimes it was absolutely beautiful and I was like “Wow, that line’s going in my quote journal.” But other times? It felt like every sentence was trying to out-poet the last one in a Hunger Games death match of metaphors. Calm down, please. And look, I knew going in that this wasn’t gonna be some action-packed thrill ride, but still… I needed something more from the plot. Sometimes I was really into it — totally vibing — and then suddenly I was bored out of my mind, counting pages like I was in a reading prison. I just wanted it to END already. Also? The supernatural twist? Yeah… no. That was not on the blurb, not in the vibes, not something I signed up for. I suspected it was going in that direction, but I still had hope (unintentional pun with Hope hahah). Unfortunately, my hope was wrong. I just really don’t like that kind of thing, and it pulled me out of the story. And speaking of confusing: parts of this book had me like 🧍♀️. What is going on? Why? How? My biggest disappointment, though, was that we didn’t get nearly enough of Sony, C, and Neo. They were the only characters I was actually interested in, and yet we barely scratched the surface with them. Their stories genuinely touched me — I may or may not have shed a few dramatic reader tears — especially my little menace Neo and his heart, C. Those two were heartbreaking in the best way. I needed more of them. Meanwhile, Sam and Hikari? Could not care less. I know they were supposed to be important, but they just didn’t do it for me. So yeah… overall, I wouldn’t say the book was bad, but it definitely had some major weaknesses. Beautiful writing? Sure. Emotional moments? Yup. But it also left me confused, mildly annoyed, and occasionally dramatic sighing like I was in a soap opera.
