Rezension von Raphaela Ich habe bis drei Uhr morgens gelesen, weil ich es nicht mehr aus der Hand legen wollte. Ich mag Kingfishers Prosa und sie ist eine der wenigen Autoren bei denen ich sogar Ich-Erzähler genieße. Die Erzählstimme ist sympathisch und in jeder Handlung nachvollziehbar. Das Buch verbindet Poes "Fall of the House of Usher" mit einer interessanten Horroridee, was eine wundervoll morbide und gruselige Geschichte ergibt. Ich konnte mir nie vorstellen, wie gruselig Häschen sein könnten. Was ich bei Kingfisher auch immer sehr genieße sind die Animal Sidekicks, die in jedem Buch eine tatsächliche Persönlichkeit erhalten, was auch der Beziehung des Ich-Erzählers zu ihnen geschuldet ist. In "The twisted ones" war es Hund Bongo, der der Erzählerin zur Seite stand, in "Hollow Places" war es Kater (sorry ich hab den Namen grad vergessen) und diesmal ist es Hengst Hob. Interessant ist auch Kingfishers Herangehensweise an die Genderdiskussion. Prota Alex stammt aus einem (fiktiven) Land, in dem man neben den üblichen Gender Pronomen (er/sie/es) auch neutrale Pronomen für Kinder und Soldaten hat. Es ist ein interessanter Ansatz, der sich faszinierend logisch in die Erzählung einfügt. Ich habe selten einen Autor gefunden, der so ein Händchen für Atmosphäre hat, wie Kingfisher und ich kann das nächste Buch kaum erwarten.
