Yukito Ayatsuji

Yukito Ayatsuji, born in 1960 in Kyoto, Japan, is a Japanese mystery writer associated with the Shin-Honkaku mystery movement, which reinterprets classic detective fiction through intricate puzzles and unexpected twists. He studied at Kyoto University’s Faculty of Education and joined its detective research society. While still a student, he submitted the manuscript of The Decagon House Murders for the Edogawa Rampo Prize; the novel was shortlisted and published in 1987. It is regarded as a milestone of modern Japanese crime fiction. Ayatsuji has also published more than 20 novels, as well as short stories, essays, and other literary works.
