Yiyun Li, born in 1972, grew up in Beijing. She is the author of novels, short stories, and essays. Her published works include the novels “Die Sterblichen” (2009) and “Schöner als die Einsamkeit” (2015), the story collection “Tausend Jahre frommes Beten” (2011), and “Lieber Freund, aus meinem Leben schreibe ich dir in deines” (2018). Her short stories and essays have appeared in publications including The New Yorker and The Paris Review. For “Tausend Jahre frommes Beten,” she received, among other honors, the PEN/Hemingway Award and the Guardian First Book Award. In 2014, she received the Benjamin H. Danks Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
