Wolfgang Stammler was born in Mannheim in 1956. After training as an electrical mechanic, he earned a degree in theology in Darmstadt and a Master of Arts in Education in the United States. Until his retirement, he worked as a residential-home director, dean of students, and pastor in boarding schools, student residences, churches, and a senior-care home. His work with people of different ages, particularly his accompaniment of elderly and dying people, shaped his later spiritual writing.
