Wolfgang Schmidbauer

Wolfgang Schmidbauer was born in 1941 and studied psychology at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, where he received his doctorate with a thesis on “Myth and Psychology.” After psychoanalytic training, he worked as a psychoanalyst and psychotherapist specializing in individual and couples therapy. He published numerous books of nonfiction and professional literature, as well as fiction; his best-known works include “Hilflose Helfer” and “Die Angst vor Nähe.” He also wrote the column “Die großen Fragen der Liebe” for the ZEITmagazin for many years. Schmidbauer co-founded the Munich Association for Psychoanalysis and the Society for Analytical Group Dynamics. As a young author, he spent several years living in Italy.
