Wolfgang Hilbig (1941–2007) was a German writer and poet. He was born in Meuselwitz near Leipzig and moved from the GDR to West Germany in 1985. His notable works include the novels Eine Übertragung, Ich and Das Provisorium, as well as poetry and short prose. Hilbig received numerous awards, including the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize, the Georg Büchner Prize, the Bremen Literature Prize, the Lessing Prize and the Peter Huchel Prize.
