Wolfgang Herrndorf (1965–2013) was a German writer, painter and illustrator. He studied painting at the Nuremberg Academy of Fine Arts and worked, among other things, as an illustrator for the satirical magazine Titanic before turning to writing. His debut novel, In Plüschgewittern, was published in 2002, followed by the story collection Diesseits des Van-Allen-Gürtels in 2007. He became widely known for the novels Tschick (2010) and Sand (2011), which won the Leipzig Book Fair Prize. His other honors included the German Story Prize, the German Youth Literature Prize and the Hans Fallada Prize. His diary Arbeit und Struktur (2013) and the unfinished novel Bilder deiner großen Liebe (2014) were published posthumously.
