William Gibson

William Gibson was born in South Carolina in 1948 and moved to Canada at the age of 19 to avoid being drafted for the Vietnam War. He studied English language and literature at the University of British Columbia and became known as a writer. His first novel, *Neuromancer*, was published in 1984 and introduced the term “cyberspace.” The novel received the Hugo, Nebula, and Philip K. Dick Awards. In 2019, Gibson received the Damon Knight Memorial Grand Master Award for lifetime achievement.
