Wilhelm von Humboldt (1767–1835) was a German scholar in the humanities, writer, and statesman. He reformed the Prussian education system in the spirit of Neohumanism and was involved in founding the University of Berlin, now known as Humboldt University. He also served as a diplomat in Rome and Vienna. In addition, he made important contributions to comparative linguistics and influenced Weimar Classicism through his critical analyses.
