Werner Herzog

Werner Herzog (born Werner H. Stipetic in Munich in 1942) is a German filmmaker, author, and opera director. He grew up in a remote Bavarian village and worked as a welder during his studies to finance his first film. His best-known films include “Aguirre, the Wrath of God,” “Nosferatu,” “Fitzcarraldo,” “Grizzly Man,” “Cave of Forgotten Dreams,” and “My Best Fiend.” His filmmaking received, among other distinctions, several Adolf Grimme Awards, the Golden Bear, and the German Film Award; his documentary “Encounters at the End of the World” was nominated for an Academy Award. He also published several books, including “Of Walking in Ice,” “Conquest of the Useless,” and “Every Man for Himself and God Against All”.
