Walter Popp, born in Nuremberg in 1948, studied law in Erlangen and worked as a lawyer in Mannheim until 1983. He then moved to France, where he initially worked as a bartender in Paris. From 1984 onward, he worked in Provence as a literary translator and later as a technical translator. In 1985, he co-wrote the crime novel »Selbs Justiz« with Bernhard Schlink. The book was translated into numerous languages and adapted for film, and is the first volume of the so-called Selb trilogy.
