Wallace Shawn (born 1943 in New York) studied philosophy, history and politics at Harvard University and the University of Oxford. He became known as a screenwriter for French director Louis Malle, as a playwright and as an actor. His plays include The Fever (1990). He made his acting debut in Woody Allen’s 1979 film Manhattan. Shawn was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2001 and to the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 2006.
