Viktor Remizov (born 1958) studied geology in Saratov and later Russian philology in Moscow. After completing his studies, he worked as a teacher and then spent 20 years as a journalist. He wrote his first short stories in 1985–86 but initially did not publish them. His novels and short stories began appearing in 2004 and have been translated into several languages. His debut novel, Ash and Dust, was nominated for the Russian literary prize Bolshaya Kniga. In 2021, Remizov received the award for his novel Permafrost.
