Vicente Alfonso was born in 1977 in Torreón, Mexico. He is a journalist and writer from a family of miners. He attended a Jesuit school for thirteen years. Alongside his work as a novelist, he contributed to the culture section of the newspaper El Universal. In 2015, he received the Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz International Prize for his novel The Tears of San Lorenzo.
