Velma Wallis

Velma Wallis was born in 1960 in Fort Yukon, Alaska, one of thirteen children, and was raised in the traditional values of the Athabascan people. After high school, she lived in a trapper’s cabin and learned to sustain herself through fishing, hunting, and trapping. She became best known for her book *Two Old Women*, which received the Western States Book Award, was translated into 17 languages, and sold millions of copies.
