Veit Heinichen, born in 1957, studied business administration and initially worked in the automobile industry, as a bookseller, and for publishing houses in Switzerland and Germany. In 1994, he co-founded Berlin Verlag, serving as its managing director until 1999. As a writer, he became best known for his crime novels featuring Commissario Proteo Laurenti, including “Gib jedem seinen eigenen Tod,” “Die Toten vom Karst,” and “Der Tod wirft lange Schatten.” His novels were translated into numerous languages and some were adapted for German television. Heinichen received, among other honors, the Radio Bremen Crime Fiction Prize, the Premio Internazionale Trieste, and the Gran Premio Noè. Together with chef Ami Scabar, he also wrote the cultural and culinary travel book “Triest – Stadt der Winde.”
