Vaclav Smil

Vaclav Smil was a professor of environmental science at the University of Manitoba. He has written more than 40 books on energy and environmental issues, including the foundational work *Energy and Civilization*. In 2010, *Foreign Policy* named him one of its “Top 100 Global Thinkers.”
