Uwe Wittstock

Uwe Wittstock, born in Leipzig in 1955, is a German journalist, literary critic, and author. From 1980 to 1989, he was a literary editor at the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung under Marcel Reich-Ranicki. He subsequently worked as an editor for German-language literature at S. Fischer Verlag until 1999 and as co-editor of the journal Neue Rundschau. From 2000 to 2010, he worked for Die Welt, including as deputy head of its culture section and as a cultural correspondent. From 2010 to 2018, he was literary editor of the news magazine Focus. His books include a biography of Marcel Reich-Ranicki, Karl Marx beim Barbier (2018), Februar 33. Der Winter der Literatur, and Marseille 1940. Die große Flucht der Literatur. In 1989, he received the Theodor Wolff Prize for journalism.
