Ursula Krechel, born in Trier in 1947, is a German writer. She worked as a theater dramaturge and began publishing in 1974, producing plays, poetry, radio plays, novels, and essays. Her notable novels include *Shanghai fern von wo* (2008), *Landgericht* (2012), and *Geisterbahn* (2018). Her work has received numerous honors, including the Joseph Breitbach Prize, the German Book Prize, and the Jean Paul Prize. In 2025, she was awarded the Georg Büchner Prize.
