Uri Orlev

Uri Orlev (1931–2022), born in Warsaw, was an Israeli author of children’s and young adult books. In 1943, he was deported to the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp; in 1945, he reached Israel on a children’s transport. He lived for many years on a kibbutz and later in Jerusalem. His best-known novels include *The Lead Soldiers* and *Run, Boy, Run*, which was translated into more than 25 languages and adapted into a film. Orlev received the Hans Christian Andersen Award for his complete body of work.
