Ulrich Ritzel (born 1940) grew up in the Swabian Jura and worked as a journalist for more than three decades. In 1980, he received the Wächter Prize of the German Daily Press. He made his debut as a freelance author in 1999 with the novel “Der Schatten des Schwans.” His crime novels “Schwemmholz” and “Beifang” were awarded the German Crime Prize, while “Der Hund des Propheten” received the Burgdorf Crime Festival Award. He is particularly known for his series of novels featuring Inspector Berndorf.
