Ulrich Heckel (born 1958) studied Protestant theology in Tübingen, Edinburgh and Göttingen. He subsequently worked as a parish pastor for 16 years. His further professional positions included serving as a senior church councillor for theology, congregational affairs and the worldwide church in the Evangelical-Lutheran Church in Württemberg, as well as holding an extraordinary professorship in New Testament at the University of Tübingen’s Faculty of Protestant Theology.
