Ulla Hahn (born in 1945 in Brachthausen, Sauerland) is a German writer. She grew up in Monheim am Rhein, studied German literature, sociology and history at the University of Cologne, and received her doctorate in 1978. She subsequently taught at several universities and worked as a cultural editor at Radio Bremen. Her first poetry collection, “Herz über Kopf” (1981), established her literary reputation. Her major works include the novel “Das verborgene Wort” (2001) and the further volumes of the Hilla Palm cycle, “Aufbruch” (2009), “Spiel der Zeit” (2014) and “Wir werden erwartet” (2017). Hahn received, among other distinctions, the Leonce and Lena Prize, the Friedrich Hölderlin Prize and the German Book Prize.
