Uli Borowka was born in 1962 in Menden in Germany’s Sauerland region. He began his professional football career at Borussia Mönchengladbach under Jupp Heynckes. From 1987 to 1996, he played for Werder Bremen under Otto Rehhagel, winning the German championship, the DFB-Pokal and the European Cup several times with the club. Borowka made six international appearances. After undergoing treatment for alcohol addiction, he founded the association Uli Borowka Suchthilfe und Suchtprävention e.V.
