Tony Ross, born in London in 1938, studied at the Liverpool School of Art. He worked as a cartoonist, graphic artist, designer, lecturer and picture-book artist, and was regarded as one of the internationally best-known illustrators of children’s and young people’s books. His work received numerous prizes and awards. In 1986, he began the picture-book series The Little Princess, which was adapted as an animated television series.
