Tony Judt

Tony Judt (1948–2010) was a historian who taught at Cambridge, Oxford, and Berkeley. From 1995, he was Erich Maria Remarque Professor of European Studies in New York. His major works include *Postwar: A History of Europe Since 1945*, *Reappraisals: Reflections on the Forgotten Twentieth Century*, and *A Grand Illusion: An Essay on Europe*. He co-wrote *Thinking the Twentieth Century* with Timothy Snyder. Judt was a member of the Royal Historical Society, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation. His honors included the Bruno Kreisky Prize (2006), the Erich Maria Remarque Peace Prize, and the Hannah Arendt Prize (both 2007).
