Tome, whose real name was Philippe Vandervelde, was born in Brussels in 1957. He initially worked with Janry as an assistant to the cartoonist Dupa on several comic series. From 1979, the two created the games page for the Belgian magazine “Spirou”; in 1980, they took over the series “Spirou et Fantasio”. They shared writing and drawing duties until 1987, when Tome focused on writing. He wrote scripts for works including “Spirou et Fantasio”, “Little Spirou” and “Soda”. In 1998, he wrote his first script for a realistic comic.
