Tomas Halik

Tomáš Halík (born 1948) is a Czech religious philosopher and sociologist. He studied theology underground and was secretly ordained a priest in 1978. During the communist era, he worked with Cardinal František Tomášek and Václav Havel. Halík taught sociology at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University in Prague and served as chaplain of Prague’s academic parish and rector of the university church of St. Salvator. Pope Benedict XVI awarded him the honorary title of Prelate of Honor. His distinctions include the Romano Guardini Prize (2010) and the Templeton Prize (2014).
