Tina Turner (1939–2023), born Anna Mae Bullock in Nutbush, Tennessee, was an American-Swiss singer and one of the world’s most successful pop performers. She sold around 200 million records and received twelve Grammy Awards. In 2018, she was honored with the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. Turner became a Swiss citizen in 2013. She practiced Buddhism for more than four decades. In 2009, she released the album “Beyond,” featuring Buddhist and Christian chants, with Regula Curti and Dechen Shak-Dagsay. She died in Switzerland on May 24, 2023.
