Thomas Steinfeld (born 1954) is a journalist, literary critic, translator, and author. He studied German and musicology in Marburg and Berlin and worked as a language teacher in Sweden and as a lecturer at Canadian universities. He later served as an editor and literary editor at the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, headed the cultural section of the Süddeutsche Zeitung, and worked as its cultural correspondent in Italy. From 2006 to 2018, he taught cultural studies at the University of Lucerne. His books include Der Sprachverführer (2010), Herr der Gespenster. Die Gedanken des Karl Marx (2017), and Italien. Porträt eines fremden Landes (2020). His complete German translation of Selma Lagerlöf’s The Wonderful Adventures of Nils was nominated for the Leipzig Book Fair Prize in 2015.
