Thomas Metzinger, born in Frankfurt am Main in 1958, is a German philosopher. He taught philosophy at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and served as president of the German Cognitive Science Society and the Association for the Scientific Study of Consciousness. In 2018, he was appointed to the European Commission’s High-Level Expert Group on Artificial Intelligence. He received the Pufendorf Medal in 2021 and was elected to the German National Academy of Sciences in 2022. His book “The Ego Tunnel” has been translated into eleven languages. In 2023, he published “Bewusstseinskultur. Spiritualität, intellektuelle Redlichkeit und die planetare Krise”.
