Thomas Brussig, born in Berlin in 1964, is a German writer. He grew up in the eastern part of the city and, after finishing school, worked among other jobs as a furniture mover, museum attendant and hotel porter. He subsequently studied sociology and dramaturgy. In 1991, he made his debut under the pseudonym Cordt Berneburger with the novel “Wasserfarben.” He achieved his breakthrough in 1995 with “Helden wie wir,” which was translated into numerous languages and adapted into a film. Other notable works include “Am kürzeren Ende der Sonnenallee” (1999), “Wie es leuchtet” (2004) and “Das gibts in keinem Russenfilm” (2015). He also wrote the musical “Hinterm Horizont” and the novel adaptation of “Sonnenallee.” His awards include the Hans Fallada Prize (2000) and the Carl Zuckmayer Medal (2005).
