Tereza Vanek

Tereza Vanek was born in Prague in 1966 and grew up in Munich. She studied English, Romance and Slavic languages and literature and earned a doctorate (Dr. phil.). Before becoming a writer, she worked among other things as a teacher and translator and spent several years abroad. She has published novels since 2007, often focusing on historical subjects and encounters between different cultures. Her works include the China trilogy—The Secret of the Jade Rings, The Rebel of Shanghai and The Beautiful Island—as well as the Maya adventure The Talking Cross and the Taiwan series, which began with Storm over Formosa.
