Taufiq al-Hakim

Taufiq al-Hakim (c. 1898–1987) was an Egyptian writer regarded as one of the major innovators of modern Arabic literature. Alongside his literary work, he was active in education and cultural affairs from 1939 onward. He served, among other roles, as director of the Egyptian National Library and represented Egypt at UNESCO. He died in Cairo in 1987.
