Tanja Kinkel

Tanja Kinkel (born 1969 in Bamberg) is a German writer. She studied German literature, theatre and communication studies in Munich and received her doctorate in 1997 with a dissertation on Lion Feuchtwanger’s treatment of power. She became known especially for historical novels, including The Lioness of Aquitaine, The Puppeteers, Mondlaub and The Sons of the Wolf; she also wrote thrillers, fantasy, children’s and young adult books, and contemporary fiction. Her novels have been translated into numerous languages. In 1992, she founded the children’s aid organization Brot und Bücher e.V. She received several literary prizes and was awarded the Bavarian Order of Merit in 2021.
