Tahar Ben Jelloun (born in 1944 in Fez, Morocco) is a French-language Moroccan writer and psychiatrist. He studied philosophy in Rabat and later in Paris, initially working as a teacher before becoming a journalist. In 1971 he published his first poetry collection, “Hommes sous linceul de silence.” He achieved his literary breakthrough with the novel “L’Enfant de sable” (1985). Among his other well-known works is “Les Raisins de la galère.” Ben Jelloun has received several awards for his novels and other books.
