Tabea Kamada was born in Berlin in 1986. She studied Asian and African regional studies at Humboldt University of Berlin and spent a year at Tokai University in Kanagawa, Japan, on a scholarship. From 2011 to 2017, she worked for the Japan-German Society in Tokyo in public relations, editorial work, and youth programs. She also worked as a freelance translator and in Japanese-German cultural exchange. Her publications include *Für Japaner interessante deutsche Selbstverständlichkeiten* (roughly, “German Everyday Things of Interest to Japanese People”) and *Lachen! Geschichte und Alltag der DDR durch Witze verstehen* (“Laugh! Understanding the History and Everyday Life of the GDR through Jokes”).
